Chicago is an amazing city to live in, but every once in a long while I want to get away from it all. Away from the traffic, noise, and hour long waits to eat at a great restaurant. That’s when I hop in my car and make a trip to visit Christine in Evanston.
For those of you who may not remember, Christine moved out to Evanston a little over a year ago and my initial reaction was not good. Not only did she take her cats with her (I’m a not so secret cat lady) but let’s just say that I can also be a bit snobby about leaving the city limits. That 10 mile drive from downtown Chicago to Evanston felt like I was crossing over to the other side of the universe.
My oh my, what has changed in a year. Over the past year I’ve had the opportunity to explore parts of downtown Evanston and have even come to enjoy spending a day out there with Christine every once in a while. This past weekend, the beautiful weekend continued and I headed over to see the cats Christine for a lady date.
It was a beautiful autumn day where it was still warm enough to not wear a jacket but just cool enough where long sleeves were necessary. Since I’m more of a dress girl, I’ve recently fell back in love with this breezy 3/4 sleeve dark floral trapeze dress. I’m normally not a fan of trapeze style dresses but this one became more structured with a simple skinny belt. My Madewell transport tote is a fall staple, and I rarely leave my apartment with out it. It’s just the perfect bag to bring along for days you’ll be spending a lot of time outside.
Christine and I started out our day with brunch at Whiskey Thief Tavern, the drinks were good but I would grab brunch somewhere else, and than took a walk to explore a few of my favorite shops – See Jane Sparkle and Stumble & Relish.
If you are ever interested in getting away from the hustle and bustle of downtown, take a trip out to Evanston. The calm and quaint neighborhood is just what a city gal needs.
