The Paperbag Skirt // Burgundy

Why the paperbag skirt trend is one to try this spring season

This week I finally had the chance to catch up on all the latest trends from fashion week(s) and to say that some of the shows were interesting…was an understatement. I’m not exactly sure where Gucci was going with that severed head thing, but okay.

There is one micro-trend already making its way to the stores for this spring and it’s the one that I’m most excited about – the paperbag skirt trend. If you don’t know what that is, it’s when the top of the skirt looks like it had a bunch of extra fabric that was tied together with a belt for that paperbag “scrunch” look.

I’ve been seeing this twist on a traditional skirt pop up at stores like this one from H&M and this skirt from Topshop this month and I’m loving the way these new skirt styles are seamlessly transitioning into my work wardrobe.

I picked up this paperbag pencil skirt from ASOS last week and have already worn it twice since I received my package in the mail. For reference, I’m 5ft 5in tall and always order my midi skirts in a petite. I find that the length works better for me in petite than it does in regular sizing so this skirt is from the petite collection on the site. It’s a great way for women who work in a more conservative workplace to get onboard with the latest trend.

So, I’d love to know from you guys – what are your thoughts on the paperbag skirt trend? Love it or hate it?
