New Year & New Beginnings

Monica Modzelewski from the blog On & Off Duty, New BeginnigsHappy 2018! Time to shake off all that is behind us and a time to start fresh for the new year with some new beginnings. With that being said, you may have noticed that things look a little different around here today.

Welcome to On & Off Duty, a new personal style blog focused on affordable and fashionable workwear ,“on duty”, and casual weekend outfit inspiration, “off duty”.  It’s pretty exciting to finally let my secret out!

Towards the end of 2017, I started to loose my motivation to blog. It was quickly becoming a stressor in my life and it was no longer fun attempting to keep it going on my regularly scheduled program. I definitely needed a break from it all; time to reset and reflect on the future of this hobby.

As the weeks flew by, I started bookmarking ideas and taking notes of things, places and items I wanted to post about. From there, I realized that what I thought was a lack of passion for blogging, was simply a lack of inspiration and meaning toward Caravan of Style. I started Caravan of Style when I was a 22 year old post-graduate student, living at home and navigating the wonders of adulthood. Caravan of Style was a way for me to do something creative and different. When I moved to Chicago, CoS was my lifeline to making friends in the city and I’m thankful that I was able to meet so many wonderful people along the way. Friends that I couldn’t imagine not having in my life, like Sam, Peggy & Rachel.

However the time feels right to move on and focus on a blog that’s far more authentic and reflective of the life I’m living today. From there On & Off Duty was born, a mix of my career and personal life that for the first time in my entire adult life feel like they are working together. I want to share my outfit inspirations for women in the workplace as well as showcase how naturally my “workwear” fits into my weekend looks as well.

    1. Embrace Change – 2018 is also a milestone year for me, I’ll be turning 30 on Memorial Day! 30 has been an age that has scared me more than I can every explain to anyone. I’m working on making it a little less scary and embracing every little up and down that comes my way this year.
    2. Do More of What I Love – Travel and exploring various parts of this world has always been something I loved to do and wished I could do more of. What I realized in the last few months is I set most of those limitations on myself.  I got ahead on my travel plans for the year as well, with trips to DisneyWorld (annual tradition, because I’m still a 5 year old at heart), Los Angeles, Greece and Finland already booked for the first half of the year.I’ll be sharing more travel posts along the way. No, they won’t be “instagram perfect” but I would rather showcase my no-makeup, yoga pant wearing self with everyone than fake it.
    3. Get Personal – I’ve always avoided sharing too much personal things on this blog. I was always trying to find a way to separate my everyday self with my “blogger” self. Well for the first time in my life, I love my career and I’m enjoying my life. Therefore it just seems more natural to be one self, and I’m feeling good about that.

I’m thrilled that I’ve found my passion for blogging again and I hope that the new content, as well as the more authentic fashion and career advice will be helpful to you guys as well.

So with that, I’m wishing all of you a Happy New Year and may every single one of your hopes, dreams, and resolutions come true this year!
