3 Ways to Reset This Spring

3 Ways to Reset this Spring with a new dress from DVF

Happy Spring! Winter is officially behind us and now we can look forward to longer and warmer days ahead. While it may not actually feel like spring outside just yet in Chicago, the sun is shining and I’m soaking in as much Vitamin D today as I can.

You may have noticed that I’ve been a bit radio silence lately and to be honest with you guys, I’ve been in a bit of a winter slump these past few weeks. The phrase “when it rains, it pours” really takes on a new meaning the older you get, and lately I’ve been feeling completely out of wack. I really needed to take a break from all my extracurriculars and reset.

I spent the majority of the weekend decluttering, reflecting and spending time with myself. If there is one thing I’ve learned in 2017, is that your body and brain will let you know when it’s time to take a break. The key is to listen to what your body is telling you…not ignore the signs and keep moving on.

So what do you do when you feel like you need a reset on your life. Well spring is the season of renewed hope and I’m sharing a few of my favorite tips on how you can get to happier and healthier you this season.

  • GIVE YOURSELF A BREAK…

The most helpful advice I could give anyone whose been dealing with their own winter slump is to give yourself permission to take a break. The key word here is permission, as so many of us take our own wellbeing for granted.  It can be hard to say no whenever a friend asks you out to brunch or a night out on the town. Trust me, I get how bad FOMO can get when you are living in a vibrant city, but you should never feel guilty about needing some time to yourself.

The time off can really help you put things into perspective by giving you the time to really put your priorities in perspective. I recently picked up a pack of my favorite notebooks  (I’ve also rounded up a few of my favorites below) and wrote down a list of things I’m most looking forward to this spring season. Every day I’ve added something new and it’s those little ideas that bring a smile to my face.

It’s never too late to start over, so give yourself a much needed break and look forward to the possibilities of things to come.

  • STAY IN MOTION….

Nothing helps boost your mood than some good old fashioned exercise. For the Lent season this year I committed to 40 days of activity and so far so good in that area. I’m not gonna lie, it hasn’t been the easiest to commit to working out every single day for 40 days, but I can feel a difference in my overall mood.

Pick up new work out outfit to give yourself that extra motivation to get yourself moving. I personally love Old Navy’s active wear line for their fun, comfortable and wallet friendly workout wear.

If you haven’t worked out in a while or fell off the bandwagon, start with something small like a long walk post meal. If you lead an active lifestyle, shake up your normal workout routine with a new workout class.  Sweat out all your problems and leave them at the gym.

  • OUT WITH THE OLD AND IN WITH THE NEW….

Last week I mentioned how much I enjoy the concept of “spring cleaning”. I’ve been slowly working toward an entire life edit these past few weeks which have included a full closet clean. I try and do this at least twice a year and I swear by them. Over these past few weeks, I’ve slowly but surely gone through my entire closet and reset my wardrobe with only things that I love. Everything else has had to go…

I’ve sold off items, donated the rest and have been far more mindful of what I add back into my closet. Since I spend the majority of my week at work, I picked up this lovely DVF colorblock pencil dress when Shopbop ran it’s big end of the season sale a few weeks ago. I love the unique color combination and the dress makes me feel like a million bucks.

Our surroundings make us happy, whether it’s your apartment or wardrobe area, we all have something that makes us happy and we have to take care of it. Refresh your style this season with a few pieces that will help bring a smile to your face.

So what are you guys looking forward to this spring season? Any bucket list items that you are looking forward to completing?
