Today I feel like I’m letting you guys all in on a secret I’ve been keeping for years. Here is goes – I hate wearing jewelry.
As someone that enjoys fashion as much as I do, I feel like it’s almost blasphemous to say this but in all honesty ( year of truths for me) over the course of these past few years I’ve found myself wearing less and less jewelry. When a friend of mine pointed out that I seem to not wear any jewelry at all, not even earrings, I realized that I just don’t find jewelry comfortable.
It all started with an allergic reaction to cheap earrings I had in college that infected my ears, which then led to me giving up bracelets when I start out in the corporate world because they would clank on my desk when I typed, to me just never reaching toward my jewelry ever again. The thing is, I’m certain that there has to be other women out there in the world that like me, don’t find jewelry all that comfortable.
So how have I found a way to accessorize and make my outfits pop without traditional jewelry? It’s actually a lot simpler than you think! Embellished collared sweaters, like the one I’m wearing, are a great way to get that necklace look without the heavy chains involved. A ton of designer and department store brands are hopping on the embellished collar bandwagon these days.
If you are looking to stand out in other ways, embrace bold prints. I’ve never felt very comfortable in pants and prefer to wear skirts & dresses. Over the past year, I’ve really started to embrace prints (like this outfit, and this outfit) as a way to make a bold statement with my outfits.
Third, never underestimate the power of a great handbag. I tend to favor satchel styles in a variety of deep jewel tone colors. I’m a bit of a pack rat so I’m always carrying a world of things in my bags to get me through the day. I’ve recently embraced the backpack life and have been alternating between this higher end model for more professional days and this larger backpack from amazon that’s equally amazing.
For 2020, I challenge all of you to embrace what makes you comfortable and what brings you joy. Fashion is a personal choice, one that deserves to embrace everyone’s choice.
