Do you guys ever play tourist in your own hometown or city? When you live your day to day life in the same general area, you tend to forget all the magical places your city has to offer. This past holiday weekend, I spent the entire time getting reacquainted with the city of Chicago. Well let me tell you, the Windy City is pretty spectacular. Just in case I haven’t mentioned it before.
The Chicago riverwalk has recently gotten a face lift and for this Chicagoan, it feels like you’re transported to a secret neighborhood that no one else knows about. I suggest starting at the lakefront and walking toward the city. Along the way, stop at some of my new favorite places including Island Party Tiki Hut (who doesn’t love a great Mai Tai), Tiny Hatt (brand new to the area), City Winery (wine with a view) and O’Briens (a riverwalk staple). If you’re feeling adventurous, there a multiple places that offer kayaking and surrey bikes rentals. Just make sure you’re not drinking and paddling.
It’s definitely a relaxing vibe down by the riverwalk and wearing something comfortable is key when it comes to spending a day drinking your way down the river. During the summer months I prefer to pull on a dress and head out the door. Nothing is more comfortable and simple than a A-line dress in a summery color. I picked up this dress for $50 and I love the scalloped details and bright red color. Make sure to grab a jean jacket no matter how hot it may be on the city level, the temperatures are definitely at least 10 degrees cooler by the riverwalk and it can get chilly at sunset.
Who else has been to the riverwalk? Any “must see” place I missed off from my list? Let me know!
